The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) is a 220-year-old organization with over 700,000 members across the country.. To provide amateur sports programs through a volunteer basis for all individuals to have the physical, psychological, and moral growth of sportspersons and to encourage positive sportsmanship and good citizenship is the organization’s purpose. It has been denounced by parents, high school coaches, and even NBA players like Kobe Bryant. Someone will always find a cause to critique most organizations and just about anything in life, so let’s look at some of the complaints as well as the advantages that thousands of young athletes receive each year. If nothing else, parents should be able to learn how to make the best option for their child before joining an AAU team.
The basics of the game are one of the most common critiques leveled towards AAU. Kobe Bryant thinks that AAU basketball is a dreadful dreadful sport. It’s ridiculous. It doesn’t educate our children on how to play the game at all, so you end up with huge players who raise it up and do all this fancy stuff but have no idea how to post. They don’t understand the basics of the game. It’s ridiculous.
Another issue leveled with AAU basketball is a lack of integrity. Because they feel AAU should come first, athletes will drop out of high school. Furthermore, with AAU, there are no limits on which squad you may represent. Some players move teams frequently in order to be on the top squad.
Another topic of disagreement is the undervaluation of victory. Kids would typically play 4-5 games throughout the weekend in larger contests. They prefer to ignore defeats because the next game is only a few hours away.
Enough with the AAU basketball criticism. It’s a fantastic organization that gives thousands of kids the chance to improve their talents while also giving a number of additional advantages. When I questioned a few high school basketball coaches about AAU basketball, they all listed a number of benefits.
AAU basketball, according to Coach Duke Leonardo of Freedom High School in Orlando, is a “wonderful method to get them introduced to college.” Some of the events and competitions in which these kids participate are big national events featuring the best AAU talent on the planet. Anyone who wants to see the world’s greatest players compete will be enabled to do so.
Students can further extend their game and experience by participating in AAU. AAU basketball allows kids to play all year and develop their skills while working with new trainers and colleagues. Unlike high school basketball, AAU allows kids to learn from a range of coaches and participate against a range of rivals throughout the year.
There are several advantages to playing AAU basketball, and I’m sure I’ve overlooked others. Just going over some of the advantages, it’s clear that having your child participate in AAU basketball is a great idea. It allows students to form relationships, make friends, learn from various instructors, travel, and even acquire life lessons.
